Post-Production for the Win

Who says you can't make good work during a pandemic? Production became difficult and very expensive. So, like a good furry mammal, we adapted. MassMutual's "How It Works" is an explainer video that uses high-end stock video plus VFX to tell our client's story.

Interestingly, this video also helped kick off Froth & Fur's emergence as a post/VFX house and 3D animation studio. Clients love the high-end cinematic look we can create for them without the expense of a film crew.

Our in-house post-production team is kept pretty busy these days as our post/VFX team has continued to grow. We've become a go-to for brands and agencies for typical post workflows like editorial, color grading, and sound mix.

We've also carved out a special niche for clients looking to create "all in" brand films and stories told completely through editorial, VFX, and 3D animation.

Visual Effects Help Sell the Story

The VFX work included camera tracking and stabilization, 3D element insertion, and then destabilization so the 3D elements moved as if they were part of the original shots. We did that using SynthEyes and Nuke.

We also did a ton of screen replacement and VFX/AR screen graphics as part of the project, again using Nuke.

Editorial and finishing were done completely in DaVinci Resolve, with a quick roundtrip to ProTools for sound mixing.

Industry Awards Optional But Encouraged

The piece won several industry awards, competing against much larger projects with bigger budgets and teams. But most importantly, this creative asset continued to be valuable to the client for over two years. That's money well spent.

It was also a lot of fun to find workarounds and to create in different ways.
